Basic Information below on NeuroFeedback

Neurofeedback Training

A Neurofeedback session lasts approximately 30-45 minutes.  During the session, a fitted cap with sensors is placed on your head; the sensors connect to the Neurofeedback machine (the machine only measures the electricity that is already on your scalp; there is no zapping!) .  You will relax in a chair, put your feet up,  and play a video game or watch a movie.  You will be in control of the game or movie playing by reaching goals set by the neurotherapist that retrain particular parts of your brain.  Operant Conditioning is the behavioral principle used to help you meet your goals.  You are provided with auditory (clicks) and visual (TV screen fading in and out) feedback of how well you are doing meeting your goals while training.  This will teach you how to lessen (and possibly eliminate)  your bothersome symptoms.  Neurofeedback is brain calming and teaches self-regulation of body and emotions.

Quantitative EEG (qEEG) Brain Mapping Evaluation

Brain Mapping is used to better understand which parts of your brain are overstimulated, understimulated, or perfectly stimulated (are in balance).  From there, a neurotherapist will decide which therapeutic protocol is most appropriate to reduce bothersome symptoms.  Brain Mapping involves wearing a fitted cap on your head and completing short bursts of a task while EEG readings are recorded.  Again, this is noninvasive and should not produce any discomfort.

Psychoeducational Testing

Progress monitoring, along with pre- and post-therapy testing,  is achieved by completing certain social, emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and/or attention measures.  These are non-invasive and are usually completed on the computer.  The results are additional data to help determine whether therapy is correctly focused or if a change is needed.

Student Advocate / Special Education Consultant / Home and School Interventions

Each child learns in a unique way and is one-of-a-kind.  We help personalize learning to best fit your child and can help with home and school communication.  We can attend 504 and IEP meetings with you to help you navigate new territory or meet with you before a meeting to answer any questions.  We are interventionists at heart and look at social, emotional, and behavioral issues as a learning experience for skills that aren't fully mastered.  We work with you and your family to outline a plan to best address and best teach the skills that are missing and resolve the chaos. Neurofeedback is a powerful technique that empowers the child and helps them build their self-confidence.

Picture of the Equipment: The equipment consist of a TV/Screen that you will be watching/interacting with, a fitted EEG cap, and Conducting Gel.  The equipment should not be irritating in any way, adjustments can be made until it is no longer irritating.  You should feel relaxed. The Conductive Gel will be in used in your hair to create a good contact, afterwards you can wipe it out of your hair.
